Commercial Drone Pre-Flight Inspection & Weather Minimums

🌤️ FAA Regulatory Weather Minimums

  • Flight Visibility: Minimum 3 statute miles from control station.
  • Cloud Clearance: At least 500 feet below, 2,000 feet horizontally from clouds.
  • Maximum Altitude: 400 feet AGL (or 400 ft above a structure within 400 ft radius).
  • Maximum Groundspeed: 100 mph (87 knots).

🔍 Aircraft & Hardware Physical Check

  • ✅ Propellers: Inspect for micro-cracks, chips, and secure lock.
  • ✅ Motor Bearings: Spin manually to ensure smooth, unhindered rotation.
  • ✅ Camera Gimbal: Remove clamp, verify free pitch/roll calibration.
  • ✅ MicroSD Card: Formatted, high-speed V30/A2 rated, seated properly.
  • ✅ Airframe: Inspect landing gear and optical obstacle sensors.

🔋 Power & Radio Link Verification

  • ✅ LiPo Batteries: 100% fully charged, zero cell swelling, firmly latched.
  • ✅ Remote Controller: Fully charged, antenna positioned perpendicularly.
  • ✅ Return-to-Home (RTH): Set altitude to 50ft above tallest local obstruction.
  • ✅ Compass & IMU: Calibrate away from reinforced concrete and vehicles.

📡 Airspace & Site Safety Briefing

  • ✅ Airspace: Check LAANC approval for Controlled Airspace (Class B/C/D/E).
  • ✅ NOTAMs & TFRs: Verify no VIP or stadium Temporary Flight Restrictions.
  • ✅ Emergency Landing Zone: Identify secondary obstacle-free landing site.
  • ✅ Non-Participants: Confirm no direct flight over people without Category 1-4 compliance.
